My GatewayPC has no awareness of the Airport Extreme base station I plugged it into with a cable (LAN port). The Ethernet port, not the wireless. I thought it should be able to access the router's internet from the Ethernet just like the wireless.
The Gateway doesn't have an wireless card installed but it works when dirrectly connected to the internet through our cable modem. My G5 can connect wirelessly however the port for ethernet on the base station itself will not let my Gateway connect with DHCP.

Am I to understand that you've already verified with another client machine that the ethernet port on your Airport is working? Do you have your Airport handing out DHCP addresses or doing any address translation? If so, turn that off and try again (if your ISP will issue multiple addresses). How about trying a static address on your 98 box?
