Airport card with Belkin router

I'm trying to get my airport card equipped G4 laptop to communicate with my Belkin wireless router. The router works fine as a router and the status lights indicate the wireless functions are OK.
When I check the airport card status (from the apple menu) it shows an ID number for the base station, so I think it's finding it. But I have no Internet or LAN access.
I've changed the connection method for both TCP/IP and Apple Talk to airport and restarted.
