Michael,

I've got a Linksys WAP with a cabled desktop PC and 2 wireless laptops working thru it fine. Then I bought a Mac G4.... I put an airport card in it and config'd it to use DHCP leaving all fields blank and TCPIP got a good IP addr of 192.168.1.102 (one of the laptops (Win98) is at ...101). I can PING the Mac at x.x.x.102 and it replies. From my Windows laptop's browser, I can go into the Linksys config at x.x.1.1 and I see the Mac as a DHCP client. All LOOKS good, but it still sucks. When I try to enter the Linksys router config from the Mac, I get "network error" after a minute or two. On the other hand, I'm a Mac neophyte and I may be holding my mouth wrong, but so far my Mac experience has been far from enjoyable (needless to say, I'm writing this from a Windows laptop). BTW, my Mac is on OS 9.2.

Good luck, and if I get mine to find the internet, I'll let you know. Please do the same.

Blammo

I have a setup with an iBook and a BEFW11S4. I use it without WEP. If you want to see your network in the AirPort menu make sure the SSID Broadcast option is turned on in the Setup page. This tells the router to make the network visible to everyone within range.

Are you saying that your Airport card can not even detect your your network broadcast?? Or is it that the Airport card won't accept your password when opening the airport utility and attempting to join the network?

Hi,
My main problem is that my Airport card
can not even detect the network
broadcast. but my PC can. I'm not really
intrested in sharing files with the PC and
MAC only using the internet.

hope you can help,
Michael

This may be a silly question...but when open OS X's System Preferences, and click on "Network"...can you see an Airport ID number?? It should also appear when you open up the Sytem Profiler. (just checking to see if the Card itself may not be a problem)

Try connecting to the router with a standard Ethernet cable just as a temporary measure.
