air port card and D-Link wireless access

Can the air port card beused in my ibook with the D-Link wireless access point, instead of having to use the air port base station? the d-link has a larger range and is cheaper. the only dofference is that the air port card uses 802.11 and the access point uses 802.11b will this make a difference? Thanks, Bill

They're both 802.11b, which means that they *should* work together just fine. While I haven't heard of any specific problems, I haven't heard that they specifically work either, and we all know how variable computers can be :)
Bottom line: should be fine. I wouldn't worry too much about it, but make sure you get the D-Link WAP from someplace with a no-questions-asked return policy so you can return it if something doesn't work.
