The best way is a HP jetdirect that supports ethertalk and you need a post script printer.

I have a Mac / PC network with Apple and HP printers and Xerox photocopiers attached. We are using static IP addresses with AppleTalk and Apple Printer Utility to configure the printers. These printers can then be configured through the regular Mac Chooser.
