A/B printer switch problems!

I'm trying to run a Stylewriter & an Epson Color 800 on an old -040 Mac bu using an A/B switch -- cabled from printer port to switch, then cables to each printer. Either printer will work fine if directly connected, but when I go thru the A/B switch, Mac won't recognize any printer. Tried all the usual suspects (new cables, checked the switch continuity, made sure I had the Chooser properly config'd, etc) but no luck. Any ideas? I want to run the printers thru the Printer port & the modem thru it's port..... Thanks!!

Do yourself a favor: Don't bother with the StyleWriter. The Epson will fill all of your needs, surpassing the StyleWriter every time. If you REALLY want to keep the stylewriter it would be pretty cheap to pick up another old 040 mac to run it. I had five of them at one time. All found at garage sales. Each for 25 bucks or less. Three of which were complete systems with KB, mouse, & display. I gave all but one away. See, so there are many of these things floating around cheap or free! Grab one. As far as your box problem: I don't know how thoroughly you checked the continuity with all those pin connections. My guess is the box is just bad.
