Subject: 6500 powermac no video (at times)OS: OS 9.1 and OS 8.6CPU/Ram: 6500/275 and 6500/250 wit |
Comment: I have a powermac 6500 at 275mhz and another at 250mhz. it is really picky about monitors, will only use this old 12" apple (the old apple monitor connector) and 14" tandy (vga monitor with monitor adapter cable) that are from like 1994. I cannot use this dell 17" or my apple 17" studio display (i tried 4 different vga adapter cables, and works with 6100/66 and 7200/75 but not my 6500 series). how can i make my 6500 computers use my apple studio 17" display? i tried different adapters, monitor resolutions, color patterns...the 17" just wont 'un-low-power-mode' and use the monitor. the 17" monitor works, and the 6500 works...just not together please email me if you post to this

Reply: (edit)Just a thought What was the resolution setting set to on the 6500 before you plugged in the 17" monitor. If it was set to a weird setting the new monitor may not recognize it. Probably not enough video memory. With the old monitor try setting the resolution to "640X480" and "Thousands" of colors then shut down the computer. Then plug in the 17" and turn it on and see if it recognizes it. If it does test your resolution settings from the control pannel ONLY. That way you can reset by automatic if you change to one that doesn't work. Does that make sense. Hope so - give it a shot

Reply: (edit)The 6500 has 4 recommended resolutions like 640x480, 800x600, 832x624, 1024x768 and i have tried every resolution with every color scheme (256, thousands, millions) and the apple 17" studio display just doesnt come out of the low power state. I even set the resolutions and rebooted the computer, after trying changine resolutions and switching monitors when computer was on. I also tried resetting the motherboard, flashing the prom, boot from an OS 7.6.1 and 8.0 and 8.5 cd thinking i would have better luck. I think I need to force the mac monitor to read the video signal somehow, maybe some kind of monitor adapter...
