2nd hand Mac - reinstall registration?

Hi all,

I intend to buy a second hand MacBook Pro (my first Mac) soon, but have just realised: if I format the HD and reinstall OS X, won't it request the original buyers name/pass? Or, once installed, won't that copy of OS X be registered in the name of the original buyer?

If the original buyer's details become an issue, obviously I prefer to buy a fresh copy of OS X.
