I have a G4 466 is it possible to run os 9 on one drive and OSX on the second? Or is that pointless?

It's quite possible, and, for some people, quite useful.
I prefer to have OS X and OS 9 on different partitions (if not different physical drives altogether) because if something goes wrong, I can just wipe out the OS on the funky drive and re-install it without worrying about anything getting confused.
Makes dual-booting a lot easier too.
