ok, I work tech support, and we got completely stumped today. a 169.x.x.x IP on a Mac. we did EVERYTHING, power cycled, rebuilt the stack, redid the NIC, the works, and nothin, any other ideas?

I've had problems with certain NICs not working with certain types of ethernet lead. a 169 IP simply means there is no ethernet signal. See if you get the same result plugging the same lead into another Mac.
