[ pc dvd drive on my mac ]

I took my dvd drive from my pc to see if i could use
it on my mac G3 [blue and white] here is the msg

(apple dvd player cannot opne because the
required hardware was not found )

can i get an outside software dvd player? is the
drive proprietary to mac only? what the deal any
way around this?
