Comment: I have a really old computer (like 10 years old), but I install some more memory, and was able to successfully install xubuntu feisty. However, the computer is so old that it does not have a ethernet connection for my DSL router. I have a usb/ethernet network adaptor, however, and was able to hook up the computer to the router, that way. The problem is I can't get xubuntu to recognize my network connection. I have a laptop (that has regular ubuntu) and another computer hooked up to the router and both work fine. So any help would be appreciated. The adapter also works fine when my old computer still had windows 98. I do still the cd that installs the driver for the usb/ethernet adaptor, but I'm not sure how to install that in xubuntu. As a point of reference, I have included a picture of what the adapter looks like. The old computer I have is a Gateway Astro (all in one system). It has 128RAM.

Reply: (edit)Regardless of the network issue, 128MB really isn't enough RAM to run Ubuntu very well. You'd be better off with another distro...maybe Xubuntu?

Reply: (edit)Not that easy to get usb devices to work. I suggest that you get a realtek nic. They go for about $5 new. airlink 100 is one that was on sale a month ago. The actual chip inside the usb device needs to be known then you do a search for how to connect it. I doubt that you can use the windows drives such as the wireless people are doing.
Start here and also do a search for usb ethernet adapter linux.
http://www.linux-usb.org/usbnet/ I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you peanut.
