I am about to move from dual boot WIN XP and MANDRAKE 9.1 to 100% MANDRAKE. Right now this is how my drive is partitioned
10gb win_c 40gb win_d 10gb linux
they are in that order. i need to keep the win_d how it is, how should i partition my drives for linux? i dont know much about what each partition does, so any extra explination will be helpful. thank you

Perhaps 10Gb for root ( / ) and 10Gb for either /usr or /home. I'm sure that there is a linux-partitioning-HOWTO which you can probably get from www.tldp.org.

Get a 20 or 40 Gig Hard Drive and make it the master, and the HDD you have w xp/mandrake the slave. Then install Mandrake on the master drive. Back up all data to tape, CD or another HDD first. After a time you can reclaim the 2 10 Gig spaces for more backups.
