X windows problem

Hello ,every one.
My Redhat Linux7.2 OS has a big problem: it can normally boot and enter the LogON screen, but when i log into the X windows enviroment (my X windows is KDE), the computer is suddenly shut down.And when i press the "rebooting sysem" menu item, the computer is also shut down instead!Why?

I reccommend that you install a better distribution. Debian would be a far better choice for a linux install. Its more of a learning process and the packages that you can get are rated by stability when using the apt-get command. Debian also allows you to get away from those darn RPM packages.

In debian there is also the dpkg-reconfgigure xserver-xfree86 that you can use to reconfigure xwindows. This is probably where your problem lies with the reboot problem, either that or someone has messed with things that shouldnt be messed with... and you will have some major issues fixing it

You might try getting a knoppix CD & booting
it to verify that you have compatable hardware.
It comes up with KDE - If it works you can install it to a hard drive in about 30min and you will have Debian linux.
