I switched my machine's power off while RED HAT 8.0 was running. The result is when I tried to restart linux. The system
can boot up, but it froze at the login screen. And the monitor doesn't display the screen properly. It was not black, but some scraching colors on it. Just like a TV set gets some bad signals.

I don't think it's the problem of my video card cause it used to work well.

I have two sound card, one is on-board sound card. But it didn't work even I disabled both of them.

I really appreciate your help if you have some information on it.

Thank you

Try booting into text mode, at the lilo
prompt:
linux 3

Then run the X config program again, under
redhat I think its called
redhat-config-xsetup or something similar.

Hello,
I am having the same problems with my RH 9.0 installation or what I think it is the same.
I did an install of RH 9.0 into a new partition in my new laptop with pre-installed Windows XP. The laptop has a ATI Redeon Mobility 320 (compatible with U1). The install goes fine, but when I reboot the Xserver doesn't start, goes into diagnostic, and then to the text mode. I log in as root and run the config again with radhat_config_... --reconfig and get "ddcprobe returned bogus values...(etc)"
It also generates a log file.
Anyone knows the solution for that, or where I can possibly find a solution?

Also, how do I get the files out of Linux and into either Windows, or CD-RW or USB device; I don't have a floppy. So I can send the log files to whoever cuold help me...

And last, does anyone know if this problem is restricted to RH 9.0 or if Mandrake would be a better choice?

Thanks a lot
Denise
