I just installed Slackware 7.1 on my IBM Thinkpad 760E, everything is working fine, except X, I must have run XF86Setup 30 times and xf86config like 20 times and I can't seem to get the display to look good. First of all the virtual screen is bigger than my physical screen, and when I try 16bpp at 800x600 X won't start. I should be able to use this setting w/ no problem. I'm thinking that all I have to do is find out what kind of video adapter I have in my laptop. I can't find this info anywhere. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get this to look decent? PLease help me out. and if anyone has an older IBM Thinkpad like my 760, please let me know what you did to make X look normal. Thank you.
Well, If this helps please let me tell you I have the same problem with a TP 770z... I suspect the culprit is a missing video driver. My video card is a Trident Cyber 9397 @ 60 Hz, you may like to try the BIOS utility in your Thinkpad to find the type of video card you have, you get access to the configuration by pressing F1 during the boot up. In case you find a place to download the driver, I will appreciate a heads up.
