Hi all! I'm an Italian Linux newbie user, I started using Linux with Mandrake 9.0 about 2 months ago and I had no problems!! But now, I wanted to try Mandrake 9.1 and I installed it, but I had some problems with the X boot, so I also tried installing Debian yesterday: the result is that now I have the same problem with the 2 distros: X doesn't start!!! I'm speaking about KDE (I don't know the version, but for example with Debian I think I have downlaoded the last one...).

I've got a Sapphire 8500LE video card, and a LG795FT+ monitor, how's it possible I have got these problems??

None of you has got a video card and a monitor like me, and was able to start X? I think my problems are due to the monitor settings (it isn't present in the list of the distributors, I had to choose a generic one) like refresh settings and resolution.... please help me!!! Can you tell me your configurations settings?

bye everybody and thanx in advance!

What error do you get whn running "startx"?

Did you make a backup of your oiginal
/etc/X11/XF86Config-4 file? Have a look to
see if the upgrade made a backup for you.

Do you by chance have an nvidia chipset videocard? If you are getting an error saying "no screens found" then it is probably your card which needs the nvidia drivers.

If I'm not mistaken, the Sapphire is a Radeon based card made by a 3rd party manufacturer. Try using the most recent ati driver supplied with XFree86.
