Hi guys, I've never used linux before, but I was thinking of trying it out. Would it be possible/wise to attempt such a duel boot on my machine? One hard drive: erecovery:,C: 90gig cap, D: 90gig cap. specks above. Thanks for any advice.

Do NOT start with a dual boot.
#1 There are wonderful live CD/DVD's for almost every distro. Boot to the disk and try linux.
#2 Virtual machines. Free (almost all), easy, don't bork your system. A bit faster than live disks but need more memory.
Play with them until you get good enough for a dual boot.

I agree that as a newb, you should NOT attempt a dual boot. Running directly off the CD will give a general idea, though it's not as responsive as an actual installation. I'm no where near being an expert but I have tested a number of distros over the past year or so. I suggest either Mepis or PCLinux 2007 as a good starting point.
If you're a gamer, you may wanna have a look at the Ubuntu Ultimate Gamers Edition. It's a hefty download though & must be burned to a DVD rather than a CD. It's also based on an older Ubuntu version (Edgy Eft):
