I have installed Win XP Pro on my c drive and have my second hard drive configured with a FAT32 partition (for sharing between my OS's) and my Mandrake 8.2 with it's swap file. My XP installation is on my "C:" drive and the FAT32 partition and my Mandrake are on the second drive...
My Linux works great, and my XP works great. My problem is that it boots to the XP automatically and never gives me the LILO boot selection menu. I know I've done something wrong (knew I would). When installing, I told it to boot to XP first, by default, but I should be at least seeing my LILO menu as a first screen...
The only way I can boot to my Linux is via the boot floppy that I made. OK, this is fine, but it's not perfect and I want perfection.
I've read all of the posts about modifying the boot "stuff"...but have gotten some conflicting information.
I would really LOVE for someone to give me some exact information.
FYI, my XP installation is listed as being on hda (or is it hda1?) and the other is on hdb (or is it hdb5, 6 or 7). I'm so confused.
Please help if you can and email if further information is needed. Thanks
Pam

easiest fix for you at this point (since you dont want to do the manual method) is go by a third party bootloader like system commander or boot magic then you will have a boot menu to select from

I would within Linux go into the Mandrake Control Center --> Boot ---> Advanced and then check to make sure that LILO is chosen as your default bootloader.
Then double check the entries to make sure that All the available O/S entries are there.
Then check the timeout to make sure that there is enough time for you to choose a different O/S other than the default.
Also, just in case double check /etc/lilo.conf and make sure that it has the correct entries and appropriate drives for the bootup. "Remember if you change anything to run the command "lilo".
