Hey, I've tried installing Winmodem drivers from www.linmodems.org on RedHat 9.0 to no avail. When I open PPP and try to connect, it says: Modem Ready and then Initializing Modem , but it doesn't do anything, no dialtone, no action. What should I do?

You don't mention what modem you are trying to get working. Also, you don't mention the steps you took to get the driver working.

Regardless, the question you ask, "What should I do?", is answered by saying, "get a real modem, a hardware modem". Winmodems suck.

Good luck.

Most likley you will not get a dial tone. If you have the right port, and driver loaded just wate a little longer and you may connect.
