I downloaded WINE and installed on my laptop. dpkg -i ... Problem is it has never worked. How do I configure it, or maybe I am running the wrong file. What file do I run?

What error messages are you getting? Bring up an xterm and type:
$ wine /path/to/windoze/program.exe

Personally I would have done an "apt-get install wine" rather than using dpkg. Your config files are kept in ~/.wine. If you want a graphical setup tool try winesetuptk.

you can download a program called automatix. I just did for my install for ubuntu breezy badger. It's a simple gui for installing some of the most common programs into ubuntu. Wine is one of those programs.
