I know this is a Windows XP issue but i figured i would ask Linux users because maybe there will be a solution using Linux.

i am receiving an error message saying something along the lines of there is a missing or corrupted file --> WINDOWS\system\vgaoem.fon when i try to boot windows XP. I searched all types of forums and everyone had the same answer, repair it with the XP boot disk. I dont have the xp boot disk. also, I cannot enter any of the safe modes. I also don't have a floppy drive so i cant run a DOS emulator. because i am dual booting SUSE Linux 10.1 with Windows XP, i am able to access my windows files through linux. i found vgaoem.fo_ under c\WINDOWS\i386. I can't copy anything to c\WINDOWS\system because it is read-only. i found a solution if i were somehow able to run DOS. that solution i found at http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=315338 because i'm able to get the vgaoem.fo_ file.

Please help me so i can dual boot XP and Linux.

Justin

Have a look at http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/HELP_Widows_XP_is_being_a_pain_in_the_rear-t3655.html
where somone had tha same problem. One solution offered is to copy vgaoem.fon to a floppy (given as an attachment) and copy it using the command
copy a:vgaoem.fon c:\windows\system

Fair enough. FYI NTFS support is often restricted to read only for most GNU/Linux distros due to the fact that writing may corrupt files. For safe NTFS write support you need captive (http://www.jankratochvil.net/project/captive/) which is included with some live CDs, have a look at the ultimate boot cd (http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/) which comes with insert amongst other things. It may not help you this time but it is a useful CD to have to hand.
