Have you correctly configured samba? Are you talking about trying to access the linux box from a windoze machine or the other way roun
d? If you are trying to connect to a linux samba share, make sure that the windoze user you are logged on as also have an account on the linux box and also that they have been added to the samba users database with:
# smbpasswd -a username

There is a very simple solution.
I am using KDE with Konquerer, but it works with almost any browser. (of course you need to have samba-client installed)

Click the Samba-browser. You will see something like "smb:/ " ,
and "there is no workgroup"

Don't get impressed. Just click "OK", and add a further "/" followed by the IP-number of your windows-computer. It should look something like "smb://192.168.1.5" or whatever is the IP-number of your windowscomputer. NOTE:the double "/". Then press enter. If you haven't got KDE, you could write "smb://" followed by the IP-number in firefox or another browser, though it wouldn't look so nice.

I don't think firefox can handle the smb protocol, I know that both konqueror and nautilus can. If you have configured your smb.conf correctly then entering "smb:/" into the address bar of either file browser should show you available workgroups and domains. Another alternative is to use a program dedicated to smb like linneighborhood or gnomba....
