I just bougth Asus eee pc 900. In finland we only have linux xandros versions avaible. Anyway i have windows xp sp 2 instalion files in my usb harddrive. I go to BIOS, and change OS installation to "Start". Put my usb drive as 1:st boot device. Ok! Xandros starts to recognize boot device, however in this point it wont ask to press anything in order to lauch windows setup like normally in cd booot, it just keeps pointing '-' character endlessly. How do i boot windows from usb hard drive from asus eee pc 900 linux xandrox os?

Microsoft did not program XP to boot from a USB hdd (linux will). Doing initialization the motherboard devices are reset , thereby loosing the USB ports. I do not know if it would also be the same problem with running XP setup but would assume so. There is a method with changing some files but do not have the web site.

If you want to install XP on the internal hdd, (general idea, not specific)
1) make a primary fat32 partition.
2) make a new folder in partition
3) copy all XP's setup files to the folder
4) boot comp with a DOS cd/floppy
5) run Winnt from the 'new folder\I386'

or best is to correctly make a bootable XP slipstream install xp cd.

Note: when you install XP it will overwrite GRUB in the MBR. You will not have a option to boot into linux till you rewrite linux's GRUB.

And we get to the eula part.

You could actually get it to work but it isn't worth the effort in my opinion.

There are plenty of how to sites to get windows on that.

"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10

i dont know about eeepc
You need some conditions:
- Bios support for USB HDD
- USB port (min. v2.0)
- ram memory (min. 512MB)
- cpu speed (min. 2.5Ghz, for best performance 3.0 Ghz & up)

'm still waiting for usb v3, maybe end of this year.
