Windows XP, LILO, MBR, Boot Problem

Comment:

I have a Dell Dimension 8200 with factory installed XP and NTFS.

I have added a second drive to my system and loaded SUSE 8.0.

SUSE's installation program automatically installed Linux on the second drive and I selected the option for puting LILO on the MBR.

After reboor, the system starts with the message L070707... and hangs.

I had to boot from SUSE's bootable CD and bring up Linux to use the ommand /sbin/lilo -u /dev/hda to replace my old loader and I was able to boot XP again.

Can anyone help me to solve this problem and be able to boot with LILO from hard disk instead of the bootable CD or floppy?

By the way, I am a Linux novice.

Have your tried some net references for this?

e.g. (http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/MultiOS-HOWTO-6.html)

You might use one of these guidelines to get you going and check back in here when you confront a specific problem>

Finally, I could find the problem and I am a happy camper now.

For those who may run into this prolem, be awre that if the second hard drive is not marked as actiive (on) in the BIOS, Lilo will run into this problem. After, I tured on the second drive in the BIOS, Lilo could boot without any problem.

regards,
kj

I installed WindowsXP first on the primary partition(file system is NTFS),and then installed redhat linux on the externed partition ,becasue some game program can't run in WindowsXP or Windows 2000,so I used pqmaic7 to resize the hard disk ,and created a scondary primary partition, then I installed the win98 on this disk, also ,this disk is made active and the first partitin is inactive, and the WindowsXP and linux is unbootable , I use pqmaic active the first patition ,and the windows XP is then available and the win98 and linux is inavailable,I use bootpart(a boot tools) to create boot data saved in the WindosXp partition and modified the boot.ini file so that the other two system can bootable, but when boot,win98 and linux ,the bootloader tell me that the is lost or damaged, but the file was nver changed after installed, and I copy the file from the WindowsXP PC,the same thing happened, and I want to know how I can solve the problem??

(I use the bootpart tool in windows2000,and it performance very well,it can boot patitions include win98 and linux)
