I installed a game, Rayman III, together with DirectX 8.1. The next time tried to login into win98, the "startbar" (i'm not sure of the name in English) pops up for a second and then it disappears immediately. Then the loading stops and i can only see the background. Only 3 programs are running when everything stops: RNaapp, Nip and Hidserv. Before that Mmtask, Rundll32, msgsvr32 (doesn't respond), Mprexe (doesn't respond), and some others. (virusscanner and so). The same happens when I try to run windows in safe mode.
But I can come in regedit. I have a dualboot system, I run linux too, but I also need Windows. I use an windows-emulator (wine) to edit the registry.
Can someone who knows a lot about the registry help me fixing windows?

Why not ask that question in the Windows 95/98 forum? You would get a better response over there. In here, I would say trash Windows and stay with Linux!!!

Posting the same message in two forums? Not a good choice but I understand your frustration

Make a linux boot disk, re-install windoze 98 "over the top" of the existing installation, boot off the linux boot floppy and re-install your boot loader (linux or grub). You'll probably have to re-install directx too.

Why go to the bother of using Linux to fix Windows when you should be able to do it more easily using DOS? If I was sitting in front of your computer, I probably could've fixed it in less than five minutes by booting into DOS and using scanreg.
