I have installed Redhat 9 and samba on a workstation on a peer to peer windows network. I can see and access the linux share from both my windows me laptop and my windows xp desktop. I can see both windows machines in linux in the network servers window but cannot access them. Please use simple instructions as I am new to linux

You have to turn on file-sharing on your windows machine. Then, you have to specifically tell windows what drives/directories to share. Also, you can specifiy read-only, or full access for those windows shares.

It sounds like your not being authenticated by your windows box. You might want to try entering the username and password of a user on your windows machine. That might be what is causing samba to not allow access.

On my network I just use a generic account on all the machines. I setup programs like samba that need a login and password to use this account.

Somthing that would probably also work, although isn't really good security practice to follow is enabling the guest account on your windows xp box. This would probably allow the windows machine to be accessable from your rh box.
