Hey there,
I consider myself a very experience computer user, but ive got a problem ive never encounted before concerning duel booting linux with windows.
Ive got a working win2k and linux duel boot working, win2k on on partition, linux on the other. However, when i boot into windows, during the bootup, win2k tries to check the linux partition, which is a filesystem it doesnt recognise. It claims its a FAT32, when obviosuly, its ext2 or ext3 (whichever took my fancy on install). Now, this isnt a problem in itself, apart from the the win2k bootup time almost doubling cos it has problems with the partition it cant see. Problems also manifest themeselves in windows, with explorer behaving very badly, with the computer freezing for a few mins when i first click on start etc.
Any ideas?
Cheers in advance!
Dave

This is more of a Windows question, but you should be able to remove the drive letter association with the disk manager. Windows should leave the Linux partition alone then. This would also solve your Explorer problem. If Windows hasn't given Linux a drive letter, I have no idea what the problem could be.

Ditch Windows.... Problem solved.... Sorry. Couldn't pass that one up. That is kinda' strange....I Dual boot and format both partitions every month or so.... Never seen that before.... Yes... Windows is somehow seeing Linux. Using Grub or Lilo? Post back specs and maybe we can sort it out....Windows shouldn't even see your Linux partition tho... Get into Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Computer Management/ Disk Management or something like that..... Do as Jake suggests and try to disable drive letters or some how nullify the Linux partiton as far as Windows is concerned....

Ditch Linux.... Problem solved.... Sorry. Couldn't pass that one up either =) Windows is able to see the Linux partitons, it just won't mount them.
Try this,
1. Click start>run> and enter diskmgmt.msc
2. Right click the Linux drive and select "Change driver letter and paths"
3. Click the remove button. If the above doesn't work and Linux is on a separate drive then windows disable the ide channel that the Linux drive is on.
Hope this helps,
Sandman
