I'm gonna get Linux soon. But wich one to get?
Red Hat? What featurs should I look for?
Phat linux? sounds cool.
Peanut Linux?lolIf I choose by name there would be no peanuts on my pc.

hard to say, often times a matter of opinion. Just remember, a bad version of linux is better that a good version of windows. Redhat or Mandrake are my two top picks. Both widely used and very stable. However there are many other options with Slackware, Suse, etc. Just make a choice and stick with it.
All hail the penguin.

The most important thing deciding which
version of Linux to use is your hardware!!!
Before you pick a distro, you SHOULD check
with their hardware compatibility list first
to make sure that it does support all of your
hardware. Otherwise, you will be heading
back here again, asking for help with the
installation. RedHat, Mandrake, & SuSE are
three excellence choices for a beginner and
Debian is good too once you have it installed!
(It may take a little understand of the system
to get Debian installed though.)Remember, they are all free so try as many
as you want to see which one you like.Lawrence

Mandrake 8.2 is the best all around distro of Linux. If you (like me) are a long time windows user, Mandrake hands down.
Most hardware supported of all distros, easiest to install and configure.
No matter which distro: IF dualbooting with Windows (Me and before), get a second hard disk just for linux, plus System Commander (best boot selector). When you have to re-install Windows, you won't need a rescue floppy for linux (MS hijacks the MBR). You simply install System Commander again and you are all set.
I use Mandrake 8.2 Powerpack Edition and Win98se in dual boot configuration, plus Win4lin Workstation version 4 with win98se installed for a few productivity apps that I like and are windows only.
One thing that will give you fits, are Winmodems.
http://www.linux-mandrake.com/en/ is Mandrake's website.

I've just installed SuSE 8.0 + have been
impressed so far. I'd never installed Linux
previously, though was an experienced
windows user with some unix experience.
I've found SuSE easy to install/use +
packed with loads of software, even on the
personal edition CDs. Worth checking out if
you're a linux newbie like me!
