I am looking to replace windows XP with a version of
Linux.
I need a version to replace Windows XP Home.
I need a version to replace Windows XP Pro.

The home version is to be installed on basic Email, Office
and Internet PC's.

The PRO vesion would be to join a Windows Domain.
Dont know if this can be done.

Have a look at PcLinuxOS also. It's completely free and you can find reviews and other info about it at Distrowatch.com. While you're there, check out the left side of the Distrowatch website, it has links to a bunch of distro reviews and info.

I've installed Ubuntu. It's a breeze to setup, and has tons of documentation on every aspect of your linux experience.

If you are tied to your specific Windows applications, do not expect Linux to replace Windows. Do not expect Linux to run Windows applications. Some Windows applications can be made to run under Linux, but as a rule of thumb do not expect it. Linux is a totally different operating system. That being said for almost every Windows application there is a Linux application, similar to the Windows counterpart to perform the same function. Such as using OpenOffice instead of Microsoft Office.

Mepis 6.0! Give it a try: easy installation, great out-of-the-box functionality, apt-get package fetch, default kde environment (others available), intuitive gui interface, and a host of other great stuff. You can download an iso image from Mepis.org which will run as a live cd from which you can install it to your machine if you like it. Mepislovers.com/forums offers great help if you run into any problems.

Do a search for live cd's. Then you can try out different Linux o/s without changing your hard drive.
