I know I could add a group on Linux simply
by editing /etc/group. But where is "groupadd"?? It is not on my linux system, it is not on the linux install cd rom..and I find it nowhere to download on the net! Is it part of a package of tools? If yes, which one??

I'm not sure of a package name, but it should be installed as part of the base system, also it may be named addgroup, try seraching for it with:

whereis groupadd
or
whereis addgroup

hope that helps.

Do you have the "shadow-utils" package installed? Check by entering this at a command prompt (terminal):

# rpm -q shadow-utils

If not installed, it should be on the CD. Install it by entering this:

# rpm -i shadow-utils.i386.rpm

(replace shadow-utils.i386.rpm with the filename on the CD)

Good luck.
