Ok I just wanted to know Where i could dowload linux (recommend a version too please) and how do i Install it after DLing it. And any advice for a 14 year old linux newb? ;/ thx

http://www.distrowatch.com
recomend
knoppix
(a version of linux that runs completly off of your cdrom (donst require hard drive only ram (recomend system of 256 megabites of ram)this way since the operating system is contained on the disk if you mess things up simply reboot and bam system is restored
this will allow you to experiment and use linux without any risks
simply place cd in cd tray at boot time and your set
(one note your system has to be set to allow boot from cdrom)
this is in your system bios settings if you are unfamiliar with get a friend or someone else to change theese settingsbut if you are somewhat technically proficient
at boot time hit either
f1
f2
or
deldepending on the make and model the key vaires
this will bring up a men of all kinds of options like system time etc...
under the boot menu simply
change the order to look like thisfloppy (might say removable media)
cdrom
hard drive
(any other boot device you want here)
this way your system will check for a cdrom before looking on the hard drive for an operating system like windows or linuxnow put the cdrom in and read carefully at the prompts
withing a few minutes you will be at the knoppix desktop
any hard drives or cdroms will show up on the desktop automatically but by default they are read only
if you need write access then simply right click the hd or cdrom and under properties unchek read only
warning if the volume (hard drive partition0
is ntfs sometimes linux has problems writing to it (ive never had any problems but have heard of a few that have)
if your operating system curently on the box is windows 95 -me it is a fat or fat32 file system (no worries)
if your runing 2000 or xp 50 / 50 chance its fat 32 or ntfsyou can save any changes etc you want to hard drive so if you need to reboot knoppix its all there
knoppix is a 2gigabite install that uses on the fly compression to fit on a 700 mb cdrom
if you decide to use knoppix here is a tip
if you want to use it for a real dekstop
make sure all settings and programs you install are on a hard drive or other writable media

www.linuxiso.org has ISOs for most distros,
lists of mirrors and HOWTOs on how to burn
the CD images.
