Hi, I was wondering, when you have a linux box serving as an ISP, do you need to have an ethernet connection or a ppp connection to the box for it to provide you internet access, and how is the ISP box phisically connected to the internet for it to interact with it, does it need to be connected to an ISP or what for it to interact with the internet and thus provide you internet access from it (the linux box that serves as an isp)?
Thanks y'all

Do you mean an ISP or a web server?
Setting up an ISP is a very expensive business ($000's) and the connection is normally made via an Internet Backbone provider.
However, if someone wants to host a web site from a Linux box it can be done through a normal dial-up modem connection, ISDN, DSL, etc. This is usually done via an ISP and the box can be used for accessing the Net and for serving. Obviously, for a 24-7 availability the machine really needs to be dedicated as a server and a modem connection is not usually suitable for this.
The most popular web server program is Apache which is already integrated into Linux.
May have misundersttod your question but I hope this helps.
