Thanks to y'all for all your helps so far. But the problem still persists. I still can't get my x-windows to work. I've tried several x-servers and several resolution modes but the darn thing won't work.
After taking a closer look at the error message, I basically could memorise it. I goes like this:

"Screen (or screens) not found"
"can't connect to port 0:0"
"try changing some parameters"

The big question is this? Is this a video card problem or a monitor problem. And how could it be solved.

I've tried going to /etc/X11/XF86Config to make some specific changes, but it still didn't make a difference.

I have an ATI all in wonder card, and I've tried using both the Mach64 server and the SVGA server but not of them seem to work.

I would appreciate any help of any form from anyone. Thanks a lot.

I am a newbie big time and had the same problem with mandrake7.2. It all came down to my S3 Virge DX card. So for the hell of it i went to stormLinux2000 and downloaded it from their site..On install i was thinking i was going to get the same thing.

But StormLinux took all my setting and even my $hitty S3 card and 200 year old monitor with no problem.

From a newbies point of view this is great, I have a few small issuse that i have to work out, but alot has to do with old hardware.
So if you just want to get Linux up and working till you can find/fix the vid thing try StormLinux2000

Good Luck

The Distribution of choice is RedHat 7.0 it
will support just about any videocards out
there because it includes XFree86 4.0.1 and
it has some very easy-to-use programs that
will autodetect your videocard such as
Xconfigurator which you will type at
the command prompt after install. Otherwise,
download and install the latest XF86 from
Xfree86.org [difficult for newbie].

i think you problem stems from selecting the wrong x86 server and possibbly the more color than you card can support. if you are runing Red hat try running /usr/bin/Xconfigurator and try reconfiguring you card but this time around try using 8bit colours(800 x 600,1024 x 768 mode) and then move up .
