Hi, I was given this Notebook and am considering installing Linux on it. Windows 98se is too slow and Windows 3.1 is not very user friendly. Is Linux a better way? If so what version should I use? Thanks, John

Hi arochester/jessejames, arochester- It's an Intel pentium 1, 133mhz, P54C. I have 32mbs ram. Hard drive is about 2.1 gigs. Thanks Jesse. I'll have a look at that.

Is Xubuntu the same as the Ubuntu I have been hearing about? Isn't that too large for that size hd?

I think that xubuntu needs to much RAM to really run.
Have a look at something like http://www.linux-watch.com/news/NS6979422756.html which talks about distros which can run on a 233 MHz Pentium, 32 MBs of RAM, and a 2 gigabyte hard drive.
It talks about Slackware 10.1,Knoppix 3.7, DSL (Damn Small Linux),MepisLite and Puppy Linux

Try "Ubumtu live" before installing anything, it will give you a good idea of how it looks and works, without changing anything on your PC.
