I am currently using a zoom 56k v92 pci modem but I can't use it in linux because it is a winmodem I believe. Do you think that a US Robotics internal isa hardware modem will work, or do I have to get an external one.

US Robotics - external - will have fewer problems with any distribution. Also will not have IRQ or I/O problems. It will be auto-detected by most distros.

I have used the 56K US Robotics Performance Pro modem with linux for three years with no problems. It is an internel PCI modem. It says it works with linux right on the box as well as on USR's web site. http://www.usr.com/products/home/home-product.asp?type=specs&sku=USR5610B

so external modem would be a better choice

I use the exact same one as egkenny on all of my PCs. You can even find them at walmart. They will always cost 79$ . It is money well spent. I wont even use a winmodem in windoze . The USR 5610b is the best money can buy in my opinion. Good Luck Ron
