What ISO image for HD?

I tried to install Mandrake 8.1 from a hard drive. I copied all the stuff from installation CD (commercial distribution) onto my HD, and created a boot floppy disk. During installation it promts me to choose a hard drive from which I want to install Linux (that would be my hard drive D),
and then it promts me to enter directory or (ISO images).
I tried everything (i.e. hd.img, D:\images\hd.img, D:\dosutils\autorun.exe) It always says that ISO is not found or something like that!

What the hell is an ISO image??? What directory should I specify, if I just coppied the stuff from CDROM (E:) onto a HArdDrive (D:)

P.S. While in Windows, my HD wiht all Linux installation files on it behaves like if it was a regular Linux CDROM, there is autorun, etc. And during installation from CD the program doesn't ask me for ISO images or directories.

Please help me!!!!! I'm desperate!!!!!!!!AAAAAA!!!!! It's been 3d day as I'm trying to install it!

An ISO Is an image from which you would create a CD. I've never heard of an ISO being copied to a hdd to install Linux.

Why don't you just boot the floopy and install from the CD. Or better yet, why don't you just boot the CD (if your BIOS supports that.

See my previous post: CD installation constantly freezes my machine. Besides, I no longer have those CDs, because they went back to the store :(
Just forget about ISO, how do I install Linux from HDD ???

The file path to #1 ide
drive is /dev/hda now whitch
partiton you coppied it to I
doent know. you can view all
partitons by loging as root
and cfdisk /dev/hda if you put it
on the 2ed partition the file path
would be /dev/hda2

I run md7.2 with 256mb ram and have
never had any problems. I would think
you may suspect your vedio card make
sure it is supported! You can try and
configx by by using (as root)xf86config
or xfree86setup

Good luck
doent feel left out. I
am having a hell of a
time with my x too LOL..

I am here to answer the question from VN.

To simplify the question, you can do the following stetps.

1) copy the your mandrake cd into the hardisk in iso format. YOu can do this easily by using winimage, isobuster, .....

2) create a boot floppy disk using hd.img in the mandrake CD. (I believe you know how to create this bootable disk)

3). boot from the floppy, then you will be aksed where the mandrake installation image file (the iso file(s) you copied to the harddisk) is (are). (for example, Mandrake81-cd1-ext.i586.iso). Again, this file must be ISO file.

Then you will be there.
