Why would they lie? To inflate stock prices and sell at the highest price possible, that's why. And evidence suggests that's exactly what they're doing. They haven't shown any evidence. It's just been press release after press release. Go here for good info.

they wont......

they may win some bling bling for derived works from IBM but I honestly even doubt that

but if they think they can own linux they are nutty

and if they think they own bsd unix as well then I think need to check past cases against bsd.........

trust me it is money period!

most that would happen is a slap on the wrist of IBM and some quick code rewriting, whoch the rewrite will probably occur anyway by the time this is all settled.....

sco sucks

By Linux, they mean that the Linux (kernel) contains derived code. Now there is absolutely no way something like that could happen under the watchful eye of Linus and friends. It is not like "I don't know what made it into the offical tree", they know each and everything being changed in the kernel. Linus himself releases the "vanilla" kernel.

But anyway, Novell says it never gave the UNIX copyright to SCO, so SCO will first have to prove that they actually have that, and then prove the the kernel has code derived from their UNIX (which is not true).

The impression I've from the whole soap is that SCO is being crushed by angry penguin supporters.

By the way it's not difficult for a company which gets sued by sco for using linux without a sco-license to get support in this case, both financially and legally.

Personally I think sco should proceed with sueing her customers as soon as possible; so it will be made clear their claims are completely baseless. It might not be so much fun for the company which gets sued, because
fighting legal battles wouldn't be it's mission statement. But life isn't always fair. sco would be suicidal if they choose to
sue another company which is willing to fight back. But then, I do hope and believe that the company's remaining lifetime is pretty short.

what if a comet strikes the earth tommorow and we all join the dinosaurs?

the lawsuite threats are just the last gasp from a already dead company whose leadership is not capable of competing in an open honest market.

ibm's law firm is well know for delaying any action against it until long after the people who filed the suite are worm food.

sco is just a bad memory, forget them.

I second the comments above - that the motive is all about money... by threating companies with lawsuits to get them to "license" the "stolen" IP in Linux. Unfortunately, Microsoft and Sun already paid up last year - which just keeps SCO alive that much longer.

It is an extortion racket/stock scam pure and simple. I have that wllpaper you refer to. I like it real well my wife doesnt seem to care for it though. But then she dont care about GNU/Linux either.
Scummx sucks and darly mcLied, bowelmovement and that sontag person should be in the federal pen.
But it wont happen they have made thier nut on the stock and the sec dont care about scox
They are in the same boat as worldcom and martha stewert. I was shafted by kmart. They where allowed to cancel my stock and reissue new.
They stole my money. I will never shop there again ever.
scummx(sco) have killed what little was left of thier company on there own.
I hope they get what they have coming .
darly you had better get you some soap on a rope you lying thieve.
The people that buy there stock will get the shaft as well wait and see.

I duno, I think SCO Knows what they have and furthermore, I believe that the attorneys working for SCO are confident about the case. This is evident by the attorneys who have signed on to take the case without the typical monetary payment that you would normally see with such high priced attorneys. Some of the attorneys that SCO have retained are real sharks too. All they want is stock. Granted three to four hundred thousand shares is quite a bit of stock but the only reason they are trading the kind of time that it takes to prepare a case like this for stock is most likely because they have seen the evidence and they really believe that they will make millions. I bought 1500 shares when they were still known as Caldera. I bought it before 9/11 so I've suffered quite a bit. At one point last year, it was only worth like 40 cents a share. I bought it when it was at about $6.00/share. The Judge is due to start ruling this April and I can’t wait to see what happens.
