Hello,
We use a linux machine as our email server. The person who lost their emails is running win2k pro with outlook express as their email client.
We tried to set up a new identity using the persons same email address so we could divide up their mailing lists.
Ever since we created the new identity, our worker lost 300 emails that was in her original account. I tried to look in the persons default mailbox on the linux server at /var/spool/mail/jdoe but they aren't there.
Does anyone know where they may have possibly gone? Are they on the server somewhere or on the persons desktop? How did creating the new identity in outlook express make us lose the emails? Sorry to bombard ya'll with questions.
But if anyone can help me with this I'd sure appreciate it.
Thank you,
Joe

c:\winnt\applicationdata\identities
yadda yadda etc until you get to outlook express or
(depends on what version of windows cant remember on 2k know this is the route on xp)
you go to
c:\documents&settings
(must have show hidden system foldersgo into the local folder
in there should be a diferent application data then the one shown in documents and settings this is the actual one you wantkeep going thourgh all teh layers till you get to a folder named really weird
9ayu80fuas0dfjas09d9-f
bunch of numbers and letters this is her identity
go in (you will need to be administrator (or a differnt user)
copy allthe *.dbx files into the new identitywaring will overwrite new files so if they allready have mail in these save the emails to hard drive
mail is not individual files in outlook express but data in a database file to save as individual files you need to save them to hd not outlook folders wich are only files not folders....

Thank you for your reply Dorfen. Just a few questions for you though. The folder with the weird name which is the identity - "9ayu80fuas0dfjas09d9-f", does this represent the new identity we created or the original identity?
Also, once I save mail from this folder to the hard drive, how can I see we see them again in outlook express? Thanks

double click the ewl file it created (i think thats the extension )
and that will open it
as far as the rest goes with the aditional identity look at the folders under exploere
choose detailed view mode
the folder with the big inbox file will be his or her old identity.
