If you've gone to Mandrake's website, then you
know that it tells you to download those three
ISO files. Burn them to your CD as an image
files. It is really important to burn them
as an image files or you won't be able to boot
up for installation using the first CD...

try Red Hat Linux 7.3 if you are new to linux, its GUI friendly, have maximum database of Hardware Drivers (ie less complications) you will find it on ftp://ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/linux/7.3/en/iso/i386/
download all 5-6 or first 3 .ISOs and burn it on CDs

almost everyone will recommand you it's favorite linux flavor.

I tried mandrake and suse, mandrake was the easiest to insstall because of the diskdrake-partitioner, but if you read a bit first about how linux names its partitions etc, I would recommand suse because it runs more stable. The only thing is that suse doesn't give you iso-images, but you can install it from trhough ftp (files will be downloaded during install. Don't use the suse-ftpserver, but a server somewhere near

One more option...purchase 'Red Hat Linux 7.3 for Dummies' at your local Barnes & Noble and get the publisher's version of 7.3 PLUS a book to further your knowledge. I did and the install went great, as it should. The book cost $29.99 before discount.
