Comment:

I installed Tight VNC and configured xstartup so that when I access my Linux box remotely I get my KDE desktop. The problem is, when I initially connect, my taskbar pops up on the screen and then disappears. I also can not see any of the desktop icons.

I tried configuring xstartup to run Gnome, but it does the same thing. All I can see is my desktop wallpaper.

Everything works fine if I use Icewm or twm.
Does anyone know what to do so I can use KDE?

Try going into a terminal and typing in kdm.
