I have a Trident 9680 (2 Meg) and have had much success with using it in Linux (running Mandrake 6.1 right now with it), but have not tried it with Redhat 8 (my RH8 box has an on-board Trident Cyberblade).

When you installed it and went through the X-Windows setup, did you say "yes" to go into the gui upon boot? Say "no" to this prompt during the installation, and then you'll get a text login. Then, you can run "xf86config". Once you find a mode that works (I prefer 800x600, 16-bit), enter "startx" to load the gui. To then have the gui load upon boot, modify the "id:3:initdefault:" line in /etc/inittab and replace the 3 with a 5. Good luck.

You've tried all combinations? Maybe there's something incompatible with your monitor, then, as 640x480, 256 colors, will work on basically any VGA card (256k and up) and monitor.

Maybe you don't have the right video driver installed.

Have you tried using "redhat-config-xfree86" instead of xf86config?

Good luck.
