not sure but make sure you have the speech plugin for emacs installed, if you do try setting the variable like so

EMACSPEAK_DIR=/whatever_dir_here
echo $EMACSPEAK_DIR (to make sure)

sorry i can't help more, be more specific if you can. what programs you're using, what is your goal, etc..

later.

I am trying install viavoice. I have donwloaded the TTS and the SDK rpm
ViaVoice_TTS_rtk-5.1-1.2.i386.rpm
ViaVoice_TTS_sdk-5.1-1.2.i386.rpm
but whenever i try to run the sample program in
/usr/lib/ViaVoiceTTS/samples/cmdlinespeak with the command ./runcmdlinespeak, it output the following message

./runcmdlinespeak: line 21: 15708 Segmentation fault $CLSDIR/cmdlinespeak "Hello, Welcome to ViaVoice Outloud for Linux"

I am assuming that this cause emacspeak not to work

have you looked at line 21 in that file to see what may be causing the seg fault, also are you sure the RPM's you have are for Redhat 9, copy and paste that line to here, along with maybe 5 lines above it, and below it.

This is script that produce the error. Accordingto a website i previously visted, rpms are support by redhat 9. But I have had any proof of that statement at all.
Thanks for you help, much appreciated.
