I'm having this problem on both of my computers running Mandrake 10.1. When I plug in a USB Storage device: if "Device Icons" are enabled on the desktop, or i attempt to open Devices in konqueror, konqueror stops responding ; and if I attempt to open Home or another folder, the app startup notification appears but nothing happens. Quitting KDE and logging back in makes no difference - I have to reboot the machine completely before konqueror will work again.

This problem does not occur in GNOME, WindowMaker, ROX or ICEWM; however I find KDE suits my needs most.

Any ideas how i can solve this?

Try disabling "Show device icons" from
Kontrol Centre > Desktop > Behavior > Device
Icons

Thanks for your advice, but it so happens i've found a solution - I used Mandrake's updates utility and updated all of the packages that began with kde- or kdelibs- and at least one of them solved the problem (sorry I can't be more specific). Strangely the USB problem wasn't on the list of fixed bugs for any of the packages which is why I didn't try earlier.

Cheers again

Nick

You´re a saviour. I had the same problem
and somewhere in the upgrades the problem
got solved. KDE has stopped locking up.

I´m still left with one hassle though. I
can´t copy to my USB HD. USB Zip is fine.

dmesg gives:
FAT : Filesystem panic (dev sda1)
File system has been set to read only
FAT: Filesystem panic (dev sda1)
fat_get_cluster: invalid cluster chain (i
pos0)

Anyone got any ideas?

Bismon
