Would it be possible to connect a USB modem to a USB hub whoes only connection to the linux box is via an ethernet hub. i.e. the USB hub has an ethernet connection, so would it be possible to use a modem connected to such a hub from linux?

USB devices still require a computer to run them. Even if you have a USB ethernet connected to a USB modem, you can't access them as independant devices unless they're directly connected to your computer somehow. A USB hub is just a repeater for the USB port on your computer. It doesn't have any special super powers.

IE. The answer is NO unless the devices are connected to another computer (in which case, you'll be networking computers instead of devices.)

I think u got the worng end of the stick....the idea of the ethernet enabled USB hub is to allow USB devices to connect directly to a LAN via the Network Hub...my question is will linux be able to cope with this?
