No just download/ off magizine cover disk new kernel und unzip teh kernel-2.4.###.tar.bz2 file in /usr/src and recomile (WARNING)

that mount error meesage basically says that ntfs is not supported by kernel - need to compile (as module/inbuilt) the ntfs (DO NOT USE WRITE SUPPORT) file system can do in either 7.1 or when you upgrade kernel

Tip when you recompile your kernel try to keep as many things as modules as possible (some things need to be built in ide hardrive access for example) Also keep your original kernel (the one that came with your distro) and recompile a new source code, this way if you miss something in the new kernel options and linux wont boot, you can choose your oringinal kernel from lilo menu and then recompile the new kernel again (noting where it failed) instead of not being able to boot linux and having to boot off floppy (or worse case reinstall)

Didn't 7.1 come with 2.4???????????

Red Hat Linux release 7.1 (Seawolf)
Kernel 2.4.2-2 on an i686
login:

root@stpcpt /etc]# rpm -qa |grep kernel
kernel-headers-2.4.2-2
kernel-source-2.4.2-2
kernel-doc-2.4.2-2
kernel-2.4.2-2
kernel-pcmcia-cs-3.1.24-2
[root@stpcpt /etc]#

You should have the 2.4 kernel on the cd
you installed off of. You can also look
to see if you put on the drive and just
not aware look into your /usr/src dir to
see if ya have it already. PS: you really
should get instructions on how to compile
the kernel. When you compile it for the
first time, make a copy of your Makefile and
don't make any changes until you can compile
and boot with the OS's choices.

Good Luck...
