Hey,
If I have Slackware 10.0 and I want to upgrade to 10.1, how can I do this, and would I loose some conf or data?
thank you,

Do you use swaret?
http://swaret.sourceforge.net/
It's a bit like apt-get and should be included in the extras directory on your slack CDs.Here on my work desktop (non-critical!) I run swaret automatically every night as a cron job (swaret --update -a)....it is quite nice coming to work in the morning and being presented with a new screensaver or version of KDE!
NB It is often not quite as simple as that, check for config files ending with .new On my servers here at work I am a little more cautious about upgrades....in fact I rarely upgrade much apart from my virus scanner, believing that if it ain't broke don't fix it.

You can still use swaret but if it is a server then don't do it automatically. It will come up with a list of all the different version of the packages available and ask you one by one. Do you have physical access? It may be better to use the installation CDs and install over the top. I have upgraded my slack boxes like this with no problem....just remember NOT to format the partitions during installation.
Why is it that you want to upgrade? It may be easier if you just use swaret to upgrade specific packages rather than the whole system, that is what I tend to do on my servers. One of them is still running v9.1 but has had all the upgrades I want on it.
Swaret is a CLI tool which I run through an SSH session, obviously you have to be logged on as root, but make sure that if you are using "su" to switch to root use "su -" instead as you will then get root's path which is needed by swaret (/sbin, /usr/sbin etc).
BTW Do you use webmin? I find it invaluable.... http://www.webmin.com/
