Hi, I have a huge problem, every time I update or installing apps or anything (did I say anything). I was just starting to try to get comfortable with the GUI and was playing on a different desktop and then when the update was done I tried to access the progs, docs, anything through the so called "start menu" and there was nothing I could only clear history and logout, so I could reboot to windoze partition. Thanks for any help in advance. P.S I had all the options before update or install and changed nothing else, this happened before too and I panicked and did a reinstall

Ok, I figured out that I my apps are not uninstalled or anything of the sort. I reloggged under different gui and had access. Why on earth when I update or install with drakeinstall or whatever it is do I lose apps in the desktop/gui. Still never figured out the problem, any help would be appreciated. Have been using google for four hours to problem solve no luck. Not trying to get people to do my homework for me just getting frustrated. Hard to get people to believe there is better free oses out there when I can't even get this one to work for ultra basic tasks. Very gratful for any help. Thanks in advance. Sorry about long post - upset

Open a terminal (e.g. konsol), log in as root and type "update-menus -v" (without the quotes). The list will stop printing, then hit Ctrl+C and do the same as user.

Oh, forgot to tell you that it's a bug in Mandrake 9.2 and updating rpm and popt(?) should fix it.
