hi, my system has two OS , Windows XP and ubuntu, i want to uninstall ubuntu from my system. i came to know that first you run windows XP recovery mode and select command fixmbr to fix Master boot record and then delete the partitions of Linux. when i run fixmbr it gives a warning that partition table may destroyed. should i continue or not? is it harmful?

I am sorry to hear you are removing a Linux partition in favor of Windows. In my experience it is usually the other way around.
I suggest you first remove the Ubuntu partition(s) and make any other physical changes to the Hard Drive you intend to make.
Once you have the Hard Disk set up the way you want it, boot from the WinXP install disk.
Choose the recovery console.
Run fixmbr.
When it informs you the partition table may be destroyed, go ahead and continue.
That warning is to let you know the changes you are about to make can not be undone. Additionally, since you are rewriting the MBR, it is possible that the partition table could be destroyed and all data on the drive could be lost if anything goes wrong such as a power failure, a power surge, etc. (essentially any thing that interrupts the rewrite of the MBR).
I think the main purpose of the warning is to protect the software manufacturer from liability in the event of a problem. After all, you have been warned.
