Well, I admit that Linux can be a bit tough at first. But I would recommemd that you give it a shot. You'll learn to love it a lot more than you do windows.

With that said I assume you want to intall windows. Just boot up off the Windows cd and during the install make sure you format your hard drive. (I should make you do this). That's really all there is to it.

Windows install will just say there is no where it can install.

You'll have to boot a windows boot disk that has "fdisk" on it

run fdisk and delete all partitions (non-dos, extended, primary, whatever)

create a primary partition and make it "active" , now exit fdisk and turn off your computer.

count 5 seconds

turn it back on, format you c: and now windows will accept to install.

And when you get confortable with computers, you'll probably come back to linux :)

I have same computer from outpost. A 5012 on page 72 of manual it will mention that you can get a program at www.fryssupport.net Del-pat.com to remove linux partition. Be sure to run program in ThisLinux to remove boot sector for grub-lilo. Did the modem work on yours? I never could get it to work bought external modem another harddrive, burner, and 512mb more memory

Dont know if you have this figured out yet, but here is another suggestion.

First off, I suggest if you can muddle through the initial learning period, you will never want to go back to the dark side and land of Big Bad Bill. Anyway.....

The DOS fidsk command is not powerful enough to be able to wipe linux partition. You need to start the machine with a linux boot disk, (several places on net to download them...)

Anyway, here is another link with some basic steps to wipe the linux partitions.

Post reply if you need any more help

I don't know which distro of linux is installed on your computer, but if RedHat Linux is installed, you can try the following:

If you need to remove Linux from a hard drive, and have attempted to do this with the default DOS fdisk, you will experience the "Partitions exist but they do not exist" problem. The best way to remove non-DOS partitions is with a tool that understands partitions other than DOS.

You can do this with the installation media (bootable RedHat cdrom)by typing "linux expert" at the boot: prompt:

boot: linux expert

Select install (versus upgrade) and at the point when you should partition the drive, choose fdisk. In fdisk, type [p] to print out the partition numbers, and remove the Linux partitions with the [d] command. When you are satisfied with the changes you have made, you can quit with a [w] and the
changes will be saved to disk. If you deleted too much, type [q] and no changes will be made.

Once you have removed the Linux partitions, you can reboot your computer using [Control]-[Alt]-[Delete] instead of continuing with the install. Then you can insert your Windows installation CD to install Windows.

Hope this may help:-)
